'Better Call Saul' Is Real And He's Amazing

Meet the genuine Saul Goodman as he prepares to defend a sex trafficking case involving some "hoes."

Saul GoodmanNot since the Kramer Reality Tour has a character inspired such an intense interest in finding the “real” version. Not that Breaking Bad set out to base Saul on anyone — unlike Larry David using his former neighbor as a jumping off point — but the character was so over-the-top, so perfect, that everyone wanted to see if any individual could approach the sublime Slippin’ Jimmy. It was this drive that brought Vice to New York City and the offices of Howard Greenberg.

Greenberg’s reputation precedes him wherever he goes. The wild-haired attorney is equally at home comparing expert witnesses to “happy hoes” and representing criminally kinky Cravath lawyers. He’s tenacious, a tad eccentric, and proof that Saul Goodman may not be real but a lot closer to reality than a lot of people think.

Vice’s Kim Taylor Bennett met up with Greenberg and followed him as he prepared for his latest case, which prosecutors call “sex trafficking” yet he argues amounts to nothing more than the daily work of fully consenting “hoes.”
