Stat Of The Week: Lawyers More Hungover Than Surgeons

This just in: a new study finds that the legal profession has a drinking problem.

stat imageA new study by the ABA and the Betty Ford Foundation finds that the legal profession has a drinking problem. Which we all knew already, but the scale of it, damn. “The Prevalence of Substance Use and Other Mental Health Concerns Among American Attorneys,” a study of nearly 13,000 licensed attorneys across 19 states, published in the February edition of the Journal of Addiction Medicine, found that one in three lawyers are “problem drinkers.” Further, 28 percent suffer from depression, and 19 percent show symptoms of anxiety. DealBook notes that drinking by lawyers was notably higher than the 15 percent of surgeons who were categorized as “abusing alcohol” according to a similar 2012 study. Anyway, TGIF everyone.
