Over the weekend, good ole Donald J. Trump took to the Twittersphere to spin the narrative that his aborted Chicago rally was an assault on his First Amendment rights. He also took the time to throw in some racist dog whistles too, because he’s a poet within 140 characters.
The gambit seemed to work as Trump fans — is there a term for them yet? Trumpites? Trumpzis? — bombarded social media with baseless claptrap about how “Free Speech” should shield billionaires from protesters because down is up and we’ve always been at war Eastasia. When a lawyer decided to set the record straight, the exchange with a random Trump supporter caught fire.
