The Exact Email You Want To Receive Before The Long Weekend

It's raise time, b*tches.

lawyer moneyOkay, Sutherland, you waited until the last minute, but at least you have a sense of humor. Managing Partner Mark D. Wasserman just sent associates an email that starts like this:

I know everyone is happy that this is not my July 4th email (that is coming later) or a reminder to get time in by today’s deadline (but PLEASE be sure you do).

That’s right, because it’s raise time, b*tches.

Associates in all offices except Atlanta will be moved to the $180,000 scale. Though it isn’t a pure lockstep move, senior associates at the top end of the firm’s range will have a base salary of $315,000 (same top as the Cravath scale). Atlanta associates will be paid between $155,000 and $240,000, depending on seniority.

The individual emails to associates let them know their salaries will be distributed later this month, BUT the raises will be retroactive to July 1.

We are covering this story as market conditions develop, so please drop us a line — text (646-820-8477) or email (subject line: “[Firm Name] Matches Cravath”) — when you know of another firm making a compensation move. Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file. All sources are kept strictly confidential.

Read the full email from the firm on the next page.
