I’ve been here at the Clio Cloud Conference for the last couple of days (full disclosure: I am a guest at the conference and Clio covered my travel and hotel costs), but, even before I got here, I was already hearing from folks in the industry (Bob Ambrogi and others) why this conference was the can’t miss legal tech event of the year.
Many of the legal tech conferences I’ve attended have (and there’s just no nice way to say this) a musty feel to them. After the conference finishes, and I have time to let everything I’ve seen and experienced here sink in, I’m planning on doing a longer write-up. But, needless to say, my expectations were admittedly high coming in.
The conference has not disappointed. Clio Cloud feels less like a conference about Clio the company, and more like an event about driving change in the legal industry.
I’ve met with a number of really interesting companies like Avvo, Altlegal, jEugene, Legaler, PrimaFacie, Lexicata, Ruby Receptionists and others. But, the real stars of this conference are the lawyers themselves, and they are NOT one-size fits all. I wanted to better understand why these lawyers have converged on downtown Chicago to attend the conference. But, rather than tell you why I think they’ve come, I’ve decided to invite several of the lawyers I’ve met here at the conference to come on ATL, introduce themselves briefly and tell me why they’ve come to the conference (some of them have been attending for three or four years. Think of it as sort of a real-life, unfolding oral history and it’s in line with my recent mission to hear more about legal tech from the lawyers themselves. The conversation will continue to update as more lawyers chime in, so if you don’t want to miss anything, go ahead and click follow below.
