How Will You Be Spending Your Biglaw Bonus?

Will you be purchasing lavish luxuries or doing something far more noble?

Hands exchanging moneyBiglaw associates, how should you spend your bountiful bonuses? Perhaps you’re planning to score some Hamilton tickets, which have been selling on StubHub for up to $1,000 apiece. Perhaps you’re planning to purchase your own Lawyerly Lair to someday be featured here on Above the Law. Or perhaps you’re planning to completely pay off your law school loans.

If you’re feeling more altruistic, how about making a charitable donation to support a good cause? Today is Giving Tuesday, and it’s a time to give back to your community, whether through donations of your time or your money. Don’t forget that your law firm may be willing to match any of your charitable contributions. Here are a few ideas:

To make this a little more competitive, we’ll be keeping a running tally of the firms with the most associates who have donated the most to certain charities. If you’d like to represent your firm in this giving challenge, please contact us by email (subject line: “[Firm Name] Charity Challenge”), by text message (646-820-8477), or by tweet (@ATLblog) with the name of the charity to which you’ve donated a portion of your bonus. We will keep you completely anonymous. Help make sure your firm is known as the most charitable by donating as soon as you can.

Regardless of whether you go with any of these charities, please consider using some of your newfound money to support a worthy cause. With partners sharing the wealth with associates, associates should share the wealth with those who are less fortunate.
