Which Law School Would Marie Antoinette Go To If She Married The Treasury Secretary?

Louise Linton isn't the only person who can feel superior to others today.

Louise Linton

Louise Linton, the wife of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, is having a bit of a moment. After a day trip with her husband to figure out how to cut taxes for rich people, she posted this on Instagram:

That’s a bad look.

She was criticized by other Instagram users and went full “let them eat cake” on the issue.

“Cute! Aw!!! Did you think this was a personal trip?! Adorable! Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol. Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country? I’m pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day ‘trip’ than you did. Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours. You’re adorably out of touch. Thanks for the passive aggressive nasty comment. Your kids look very cute. Your life looks cute. I know you’re mad but deep down you’re really nice and so am I. Sending me passive aggressive Instagram comments isn’t going to make life feel better. Maybe a nice message, one filled with wisdom and hunanity [sic] would get more traction. Have a pleasant evening. Go chill out and watch the new game of thrones. It’s fab!”

This feels like a good time to mention that Linton’s husband, Mnuchin, just wrote a response letter explaining why he is standing by the Nazi sympathizer in the White House. His key goal is to “reform taxes.” You know, the taxes that make his wife thinks she’s “sacrificed” more for her country than all the little people who can’t afford #hermesscarf and #valentinorockstudheels.

It’s easy to mark this family for public shame, but then I learned this nugget about Linton on her Wikipedia page:

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Pepperdine University and earned a law degree (J.D.) from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law.

No, University of West Los Angeles School of Law is not an ABA-accredited law school. Yes, it is a for-profit institution. Yes, it lists Louise Linton as one of its “notable alumni.”

See, this feeling superior to other people thing works both ways. Her life looks cute. She’s adorably out of her element. Sending passive aggressive Instagram comments to people she out-earns isn’t going to make her embarrassing credentials look any better. She should go chill and watch Legally Blonde. It’s fab!
