Americans do not like gerrymandering… They see its mischief, and absent a legal remedy, their sense of powerlessness and discouragement has increased, deepening the crisis of confidence in our democracy. We share this perspective.

From the amicus brief filed by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) in Gill v. Whitford, the case challenging political gerrymandering. The brief calls itself a “bipartisan report from the political front lines.” A separate amicus brief was also filed by 36 current and former members of Congress, including both Republicans and Democrats, as the number of politicians speaking out against the practice grows.
