Pay is well below market, both base and bonus. The quality of clients and matters varies widely, with high profile or cutting edge work rare, particularly in non-litigation areas. The firm is concerned with lateralling in rainmakers, not developing associates, and has made it clear that we are lucky to have jobs. On the bright side, there aren’t many screamers, and in many of the groups you can pretty much bill 8 hours/day and not work weekends. But you could also end up in a group where you are billing 80 hours/week and getting paid tens of thousands less than associates at other firms.
