Lawyerly Lairs: Retired Skadden Partner ‘Downsizes’ to $3 Million Penthouse

A retired Skadden partner "downsized" to a $3 million penthouse. It's a tough life, but somebody's got to live it.

Barbara Fox and James Freund now reside at 180 East 79th Street, on Manhattan’s legendary Upper East Side. It should be noted, however, that the building isn’t on the toniest thoroughfare — Third Avenue, which isn’t nearly as posh as Park or Fifth Avenue.

Still, the building is nothing to scoff at. Here’s how CityRealty describes it:

This very handsome, 18-story, brown-brick apartment house was erected in 1930 and converted to a cooperative in 1966. It has 118 large apartments.

The building has an impressive and large lobby decorated in an Oriental style with a doorman and a concierge. The building has a two-story limestone base, sidewalk landscaping, a canopied entrance, some terraces and consistent fenestration. The building’s rather massive facade is divided by two bandcourses and the building permits protruding air-conditioners.

Protruding air conditioners? The horror, the horror! But still, the building looks nice, despite the profusion of protruding units:

So that’s the building. What is Jim and Barbara Freund’s particular apartment like?
