LAT: An excellent, entertaining video that cleverly addresses a serious issue within the legal academy (gender imbalance on law reviews). Delightful male eye candy, especially the pink sunglasses guy and the shirtless shout-out (at 2:46).
ELIE: Washington & Lee has been way too much a part of my life over the past month. As Bob Sugar might say, this is a nice moment for them, I’m going to let them have it.
STACI: The rapping was great in this video. For the record, Lat isn’t the only one who likes shirtless shout-outs from law school hotties. Where’s the love, W&L?
JOE: There was a narrative arc and some great lyrics. Most impressively, it made me listen to R. Kelly music for a few minutes without thinking about his various sex tapes. Oh, and that’s another thing — sometimes we get “unofficial” entrants who have something too long for consideration that they just think is funny. If we’re going the R. Kelly route, where’s the 20 minute, legally themed “Trapped In The Closet” video?
5. Washington University in St. Louis Law School — Most Interesting Law Student
Keeping Law School Accessible When Federal Loans Fall Short
As federal borrowing caps tighten financing options for law students, one organization is stepping in to negotiate the terms they can't secure alone.
LAT: This video has much to recommend it, including the retro feel and the well-structured jokes (my favorite might have been the jab at the rule of perpetuities).
ELIE: I actually liked the other Wash U entry better than this one. Not that this one wasn’t excellent. I just feel like we’ve had all the Dos Equis parodies that one culture can take. Then again, it’s been years since I had a Corona. Good work.
STACI: The most interesting law student in the world also happens to be pretty cute. The mic drop joke here for me was the line about turning down law review for tenure. Nice work!
JOE: Do you think the Dos Equis bit is played out? Sure. But that’s what makes this so good: it takes a premise everyone is starting to get sick of and reinvigorates it for the law school world with really specific jokes. I didn’t think they could match their “This Is SportsCenter” spoof from last year and yet here they are in the finals.
It’s time to vote, everyone. Polls close on SUNDAY, APRIL 27, at 11:59 PM (Eastern time). Feel free to get out the vote among your friends and family (but please, no bots). Good luck to all the finalists!
