A Conversation With Mark Cuban

An interesting interview with the billionaire entrepreneur about his new technology platform that could be useful for lawyers.

Recently, I was emailing with Mark Cuban (no, really), and when I mentioned that I was a “recovering attorney,” he mentioned to me that his communication platform Cyber Dust was a great tool for lawyers. That piqued my interest, so I decided to sign up for Cyber Dust and play around with it. Cyber Dust allows you to text (or “dust”) with friends and colleagues, but the text disappears within 24 seconds of the other person reading it, at which point it is gone forever. This “undiscoverability” (it’s a word!) differentiates the service from Snapchat, because the messages are truly undiscoverable since they are not cached on your phone’s hard drive. Mark also points out that Snapchat’s main demo is high schoolers and middle schoolers, whereas Cyber Dust appeals to a more mature audience.

After playing around with the platform — and even “dusting” with Mark himself (although I can’t prove it to you since the messages disappeared) — it’s easy to see where Cyber Dust could be a valuable tool for lawyers. I asked Mark if he would join me for a conversation right here on Above the Law to discuss how lawyers can utilize his tool, plus, since he’s one of the best interviews on the planet, I’m going to pick his brain on a few other topics as well.
