Where Is The Best Place To Live For A Lawyer?

Are you looking to relocate? According to one study, these are some of the best places a lawyer can settle.

5. Laconia, NH

Situated between Lake Winnipesaukee and Winnisquam Lake, Laconia is basically a resort town. This must be where lawyers go to retire because there doesn’t seem to be any legal industry worth mentioning here to bring lawyer salaries up to $117,850.

On the plus side, if you were there right now the city is hosting Laconia Motorcycle Week, which is like Sturgis for the boat shoe set.

4. Roswell, NM

How do they have a $119,550 average?

3. Thomaston, GA

With a population of 9,368, this is the smallest town on the list and has an average lawyer salary of $102,900. It’s about an hour and a half from Atlanta, but it’s still included in the so-called “Atlanta – Sandy Springs (GA) – Gainesville (GA) – Alabama (partial) Combined Statistical Area” for whatever that’s worth. But perhaps more importantly, it’s only an hour from the hub of defense contractors bundled around Robins Air Force Base just south of Macon.

And it seems to have a lovely historic courthouse.

2. Carlsbad-Artesia, NM

Yes, those are bats flying out of Carlsbad Caverns. Wouldn’t you want to live somewhere with flocks of bats?

What’s the story with the $119,550 average? We’re back out West, so what do you think? Oil and gas, of course.

And, obviously, Walter White’s meth empire.

1. Washington, NC

With a $130,920 average salary, the highest of any city in the 539 city survey, so-called “Little Washington” is the second-smallest city in the top ten, with 9,744 residents. Over a quarter of the town is below the poverty line, so that $130,920 should make lawyers feel like gods of spending power.

Like Laconia, Little Washington appears to be a resort town, so it’s not entirely clear if this is a viable relocation option for the big city lawyer looking for a slice of Mayberry.

So there you have it. Are you ready to move yet?

I’ll stick with the city. Some people say, “you have to deal with a bunch of a**holes in the city,” which is kind of true. But what a city affords is the freedom “to walk away from a**holes.” Not sure you get that in a town of 9,000 people.

Do you really think Oliver wanted Mr. Haney hanging around all the time?
