Today is going to be fun, if only because we get to talk about one of our favorite topics: law student pageant contestants.
As previously mentioned, “we write about law students and their extracurricular activities from time to time, but it’s a real treat when we get to write about the beauty queens. Making law review is one thing for these women, but a crown is considered an equally coveted credential.”
From Miss India 2011 (who has an LL.M. from NYU Law) to Miss Texas 2012 (who has a J.D. from Texas Tech Law) to the dueling competitors for the 2014 Miss Virginia USA crown (they both graduated from UVA Law), we’ve learned that law students make great competitors in these beauty scholarship pageants. Taking home a tiara isn’t just a résumé line, it’s a great way to pay off law school debt — which as our readers know can sometimes be as high as six figures.

The contestant we’ll be introducing you to may not have needed any additional scholarships; after all, she had already received a “substantial scholarship” to attend the law school of her choice, Loyola New Orleans College of Law. Behold the stunning Candice Bennatt, who holds the title of Miss Louisiana USA 2015. (FYI, we’ve cropped the lead photo on her Miss USA page as it didn’t leave much to the imagination. The photo on her LinkedIn profile is tamer, perhaps befitting the conservative legal profession.)
According to her Miss USA bio, Bennatt is a woman of many talents — in fact, she used to be an NFL cheerleader for the Houston Texans. Per her LinkedIn bio, she previously held the title of Miss New Mexico 2012, and during that competition, she won both the swimsuit and talent competitions. Is there anything she can’t do? Here’s more info:
Candice Bennatt is a graduate of Sam Houston State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a minor in communications. She is a former NFL cheerleader with several dance awards to her credit. She has modeled for several couture designers including Stephen Yearick. Candice received a substantial scholarship to Loyola University New Orleans College of Law where she is currently pursuing a career in patent and trademark law. Her ultimate career goal is to be a legal analyst for a major news network where she can combine her love for the law and public speaking. Candice is the state ambassador for the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence where she shares her story to educate others on domestic/dating violence awareness and prevention. Her goal as Miss Louisiana USA is to inspire others to strive for their own success as Candice strives to be the next Miss USA and Miss Universe. Her hobbies include dance, fitnes [sic], and playing with her two dobermans and chihuahua.
This past weekend, Bennatt competed in the 2015 Miss USA pageant, but unfortunately, she wasn’t able to achieve one of her goals. While she was not selected as the next Miss USA, she did make it into the top 10 as a finalist, which is a great achievement.
