Judge (And Retired Blogger) Richard G. Kopf Does NOT Want His Colleagues To STFU

Judge Kopf, retired from blogging himself, would like other jurists to take up the mantle.

It is critically important that federal judges be more open when they can do so…. What federal judges really do is a mystery to laypeople and even to many lawyers. Revealing who we are, how we think, what we do and why we do the things we do is far better than treating the federal judiciary as a secret medieval guild. Besides, we lack the magic to pull off such trickery.

— Judge Richard G. Kopf, who recently retired from his awesome Hercules and the Umpire blog (to the great disappointment of his fans), explaining his decision to stop blogging in a very interesting interview with Tony Mauro of the National Law Journal.

Judge Kopf told the NLJ that he might write for other legal blogs. Although we generally don’t run one-off guest posts (as opposed to regular outside columns) on Above the Law, we make exceptions for federal judges. If you’d like to write for ATL, appear as a guest on our podcast, or otherwise interact with or audience, the door is always open, Judge Kopf!
