Congratulations To The 2016 Bristow Fellows

Which law schools and judges send the most people into prestigious Bristow Fellowships?

SCOTUS Supreme Court photo by David LatIf Judge Sri Srinivasan doesn’t get nominated to the Supreme Court this time around — there’s building buzz around Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson — here’s a consolation prize for him. He’s starting to emerge as a “feeder judge” to SCOTUS, so his influence will be felt around One First Street in the presence of his clerks.

And he’s starting to feed clerks into prestigious Bristow Fellowships, one-year fellowships in the U.S. Solicitor General’s Office whose holders often go on to SCOTUS clerkships. Without further ado, and with thanks to the Justice Department’s public affairs office, here are the four Bristow Fellows for 2016-2017 (i.e., for October Term 2016 at the Supreme Court):

Julie Karaba (Northwestern / Kavanaugh / Feinerman (N.D. Ill.))

Chelsea Priest (Stanford / Garland)

Joseph Schroeder (U. Chicago / Wilkinson)

Jack Starcher (Columbia / Furman (S.D.N.Y.) / Srinivasan)

Congratulations to Julie, Chelsea, Joseph, and Jack. If you’d like to follow in their footsteps someday, visit the Justice Department website to learn more about the Bristow Fellow application process, and flip to the next page to find out which law schools and judges have the strongest track records at producing Bristows.

P.S. Apologies for being late in reporting this news, and apologies for also being overdue on the next Supreme Court clerkship hiring watch. A SCOTUS clerk hiring round-up will come out soon; if you have info to share, please email us (subject line: “SCOTUS Clerk Hiring”). Thanks.
