Jury Summons Instructs People To Call Sex Hotline

Oops.

"What am I wearing? Why, is jury duty business casual?"

“What am I wearing? Why, is jury duty business casual?”

Really, what more is there to say? The Times-Picayune tells us that due to a clerical error — on the part of a private contractor — one pool of jurors in Mississippi actually called a sex line at the behest of their summons. Now, your average jury summons includes a phone number that the recipient can call to find out if they really need to come the next day, but this is ridiculous…

At least 350 jury summons sent out in Jackson County, Miss. instructed potential jurors to call a sex hotline instead of the courthouse to find out if they should show up for jury duty on Monday (Feb. 1), according to GulfLive.com. The summons, which went out three weeks ago, provided two phone numbers to call on Sunday night for instructions on whether to show up for jury duty the next morning.

One number connected calls to a voicemail that did not provide instructions. The second number, a 800 number, was for a sex line, according to the website.

Apparently 1-800-696-3044 will connect you to the Jackson County Courthouse. But the summons listed 1-800-696-3244, connecting them to a sex line.
