Law Revue Video Contest 2016: The Winner!

Congratulations to our most deserving winner!

Law Revue 2014It’s time to discuss election returns — and no, we’re not talking about Tuesday night’s primaries. We’re referring to something far more consequential: Above the Law’s 8th Annual Law Revue Video Contest, in which voting closed last night.

In case you’re curious, here are the past winners of the contest. Who will join their illustrious ranks?

Congratulations to the University of Texas, which prevailed with its very deserving Backstreet Boys parody, Give Me My Grades Today. For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, here is UT’s winning entry:

Texas Law Revue members, please email us your mailing address and preferred sizes for your five t-shirts, and we’ll get those out to you.

Donald Trump isn’t the only one complaining about a rigged voting system these days. As in past Law Revue contests, we did receive reports of both voting difficulties and voting irregularities. As in the past, we conducted an investigation, and it seems that discarding the questionable votes would not change the ultimate outcome (at least in terms of the #1 school).

But this does trigger two comments. First, if you’re a law student who cheated, you should be ashamed of yourself — you’re a future member of an honorable profession, and this fun little contest really isn’t worth cheating in. Second, as we’ve said before, we’d love to hear about online polling tools that are both reliable and secure. We have used different platforms over the years, and we’d be happy to try a new one in 2017 if convinced of its virtues. If you have a suggestion, please email us (subject line: “Law Revue Polling Software”).

Congratulations again to UT and to all the finalists on the excellent entries. We look forward to next year’s submissions.

P.S. We received a handful of complaints from some schools that our submission deadline was too early — even though other schools complained that it was too late, too close to final exams. But remember: for each contest, we accept entries that were posted to the web after the deadline for the prior year’s contest. So if your 2016 Law Revue video went up after our 2016 deadline, simply submit it for the 2017 contest. Thanks!
