Andrew Caspersen (Park Hill Group)
Last week, lawyer turned finance executive Andrew W.W. Caspersen pleaded guilty to federal charges of security and wire fraud. As you may recall from our prior coverage, Caspersen is the once high-flying Harvard Law alum who crashed to earth after being accused of orchestarting a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme. His lawyer, Paul Shechtman, blamed Caspersen’s actions on mental illness and a compulsive gambling addiction.
It remains to be seen how much leniency Judge Jed Rakoff will show Caspersen at sentencing. Under the plea agreement, federal prosecutors and Caspersen agreed on a sentencing range of 12 to 16 years in prison, although Judge Rakoff has the final say.
The Trump Gold Card: A New $1 Million Pathway To A U.S. Green Card
A new proposal would let wealthy foreign nationals secure an opportunity for a U.S. green card with a $1 million 'gift' to the government, sparking legal and ethical debate.
Even if Judge Rakoff shows some clemency to Caspersen, it seems all but certain that Caspersen will be moving from a big house to the big house. And it was a big house indeed — a residence that Andrew and Christina Caspersen bought for $3.2 million in 2015 (see page 66 of this document).
