The murder that has shocked the small Northern California city of El Cerrito and the Biglaw community continues to stump investigators. Calling the killing of Kilpatrick Townsend partner James Gilliland a “mystery,” police have not revealed any leads in the case.

Police have said they do not believe robbery or his work at the Biglaw firm are motives behind the murder, as reported by SF Gate:

Detectives have uncovered no evidence thus far that James Gilliland Jr., 62, was robbed during the Thursday night shooting or that his slaying was connected to his work as an intellectual property attorney, said Lt. Robert De La Campa of the El Cerrito Police Department.

De La Campa said Gilliland’s wallet and cell phone were still on his body when he was found shot to death.

Police are asking anyone with information about this tragic killing to contact them at (510) 215-4400 or email [email protected].
