Lawyer To Be First African-American Bachelorette

There is a long(ish) line of lawyers trying to find love on television.

For those of you actually watching this season of the Bachelor, this may be a spoiler but 31-year-old attorney Rachel Lindsay, an associate at Cooper & Scully, will not win the heart of Nick Viall. Yes, she is still on the show as one of the final 4, but she will not get the prized ring at the end. We know this because yesterday ABC announced Lindsay will be the next Bachelorette.

This announcement — or at least the timing of it — is a break with tradition since ABC tends to avoid making the publicity for the next season of the show a spoiler for the current season. Lindsay was considered by many to be this season’s frontrunner but, here we are. She will also be the first African-American Bachelorette.

There is a long(ish) line of lawyers trying to find love on television, there’s even been a Bachelorette with a law degree (Andi Dorfman, who left a murder case mid-trial to be on TV). But Lindsay is the first with a federal judge father, Sam A. Lindsay is a United States District Judge for the Northern District of Texas.

Best of luck to Lindsay as she milks her 15 minutes of fame tries to find love.
