Small Bonus Pool Makes For Sad Associates

A down year for the firm means unhappy associates.

Pepper Hamilton may have been in every sports page in 2016, the firm was hired to investigate the Title IX violations at Baylor, which eventually led to the ouster of Ken Starr, but that doesn’t mean it’s been smooth sailing for the firm.

Associates received notice of their bonuses, and the bad news is that the overall bonus pool is smaller than the year before. But, in an effort at transparency, the firm made clear that the smaller pool was not due to the raises everyone got mid-2016, it was just because they had a crappy year. So I guess that’s better? Below is an excerpt of the email sent to associates:

And only 56% of associates got bonuses. That’s gotta sting. As a tipster noted:

bonus situation.

Yeah. I can imagine.
