Case Caption Of The Week… If You Have The Mind Of A Teenage Boy

Due to the Neil Gorsuch confirmation hearings, people have been paying more attention to the Tenth Circuit. For instance, the Supreme Court unanimously smacking the Circuit down might have gone unnoticed, but for Gorsuch being in the news.

Or this! I might not have clicked through on this tweet from E.W. Scripps correspondent and ATL friend-emeritus, Mike Sacks, but for the Tenth Circuit being so hot right now:

I’m glad I clicked. The case is called: U.S. v. Titties.

I’m not making that up, that’s not a typo. Appellant Daminion T. Titties appealed a sentencing enhancement over a firearms conviction, arguing that one of his three qualifying offenses should not apply.

It would appear that “Titties” is not his given last name, which the Tenth Circuit felt obligated to note in a footnote:

1. Like the parties and the district court, we refer to the defendant by his proper last name of Tittle.

His real name is Damion Tyrone Tittle. But whatever, a man named “Tittle” decided to go by “Titties” (and also “Capone”) and the Tenth Circuit had to refer to him as such in the case caption because THIS IS AMERICA, DAMMIT.

It should go without saying that Titties/Tittle WON his appeal.
