Who is the worst in Biglaw? That’s what we’re trying to get to the bottom of in this year’s March Madness bracket. Voting is still open for the first half of the bracket and now we are pleased to present the Infamous region and the Mel Gibson or Impulse Control region.

For the first matchup in the Infamous region we have a child trafficker versus a peeping tom. You can immediately see why we named it that…
Labor and Employment Federal Litigation Trends 2026
Drawing on more than a decade of data, the report equips law firms and corporate legal teams with actionable insights to better assess risk, refine strategy, and anticipate outcomes in today’s evolving workplace disputes.

Edward De Sear
#1 Seed Name: Edward De Sear
(Former) Firm: Allen & Overy
Legal Specialty: Capital-Markets Partner
Misdeeds: This one is a doozy. De Sear pleaded guilty to four counts of distribution of child pornography and to sex trafficking of a child. He was sentenced to 17.5 years in jail, and ordered to pay $1.2 million in restitution to his victims.
Why you should vote for him: “One has to wonder what kind of parents would sell their six-year-old son to a sex trafficker. And note that this transaction took place in Paris, not the developing world. (But such crimes can happen anywhere; France was the setting for the film Taken.)”
#4 Seed Name: Kelly Cross
(Former) Firm: Freshfields
Legal Specialty: Antitrust Associate
Misdeeds: Cross was convicted following an incident at a Washington Sports Club where he took surreptitious video of another patron’s buttocks and genital area. A fight broke out when the videotaping was discovered.
Why you should vote for him: “Coincidentally enough, “chaos and an arrest” is the name of my failed punk band.”

The second matchup in this region pits two lawyers whose noteworthy clients (allegedly) got them in hot water.

Evan Greebel
#2 Seed Name: Evan Greebel
(Former) Firms: Kaye Scholar; Katten Muchin Rosenman
Legal Specialty: Corporate Partner
Misdeeds: Greebel was arrested, along with his former client, notorious pharma kingpin Martin Shkreli, on securities fraud charges. He was allegedly part of Shkreli’s scheme to use stock from his biotech company, Retrophin Inc., and to pay off unrelated debts.
Why you should vote for him: “He specializes in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and securities law. Yiiiikes, depending on how this case goes, he may have a whole new set of skills related to securities law.”

Jonathan Bristol
#3 Seed Name: Jonathan Bristol
(Former) Firm: Winston & Strawn
Legal Specialty: Corporate Partner
Misdeeds: Bristol pleaded guilty to money laundering. His client Kenneth Starr — not the former Whitewater independent counsel, but the money manager to the stars — stole money from his celebrity clients in a Ponzi scheme. Bristol helped him clean up the money because he was “star struck” by Starr.
Why you should vote for him: “Even though Winston may have (unwittingly) received laundered money, the firm emphasizes its innocence. The firm’s statement makes clear that ‘the indictment against [Bristol] is based on alleged conduct neither authorized by nor known to others at the firm’ and notes that Winston ‘is cooperating fully with the authorities investigating this matter.'”
