Moving to work in-house is considered the dream or long term plan of many a Biglaw attorney. And really, who can blame them? Rumor has it the hours are less intense, and at the very least, you don’t have to track them in tenths of an hour increments. Plus there’s the compensation, and, well, that’s the real allure.
Everyone is always very interested at an inside look at exactly what the top of the general counsel compensation market looks like. As part of their 2017 General Counsel Compensation Survey, Corporate Counsel has broken out the women that earn that most as GSs.

The good news is that the top woman earner is also the top overall, that’s Denise Keane of Altria Group. But after that, it gets less good (though Lauren Seeger of American Express placed 3rd in the overall ranking):
This year, the list of top paid women is led by Denise Keane of Altria Group, who was also the highest compensated GC in our overall rankings. Unfortunately, despite Keane’s place at the top, women are still underrepresented on the overall general counsel list– only one other female legal department head cracked the broader top ten.
