Donald Trump ruins everything he touches, and the FBI is no different. One of the premier domestic law enforcement organizations in the world now works for Donald Trump and… that means it can’t really function well anymore. From the Washington Post:
FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe — a frequent target of President Trump’s ire dating back to the 2016 presidential election — is stepping down from that job as he nears the date in March when he can retire with full pension benefits, according to people familiar with the matter.
McCabe’s departure has been expected for some time, though the exact date was uncertain…
Trump’s dislike of McCabe dates back to October 2016, when news stories revealed McCabe’s wife had run as a Democrat for the Virginia state legislature, aided with nearly $500,000 in donations from the political action committee of then-Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a close ally of Hillary Clinton, and that McCabe had gone on to oversee probes involving Clinton.
It is said that we are a “nation of laws, not men.” It seems clear that the President of the United States himself simply doesn’t believe that. Perhaps because Trump is unable to separate his personal enemies and vendettas from his executive functions, he simply does not believe that anybody else can. For Trump, the question of who you voted for is a basic job performance question, because Trump has divided the world into people who are for him or against him. The concept that somebody could be “for” or “against” something more important than Donald J. Trump is simply foreign to him.

And so, McCabe had to go. Anybody who can’t pass Trump’s test of official loyalty has to go. In a totalitarian regime, fealty to the man is more important than anything else. It’s the only way dictators can feel safe.
Donald Trump has broken America. The only question is whether people will be able to put it back together after he’s gone.
I think not. I think the “rule of law” stage of America is over, and we are entering a stage of “rule of man.” I am literally just hoping that our next Supreme ruler isn’t as much of an idiot and a bigot.
