Another New York Firm Matches — This Is What Momentum Looks Like

Another firm raises salaries, but where are the top revenue firms?

With today’s earlier raise announcement from Willkie, Weil Gotshal must have decided that today was “W” day and jumped at the opportunity to match this Milbank/Simpson/Cravath raise.

In a memo distributed to associates moments ago, Weil’s management committee sent around the good news:

Raises are effective as of July 1 and will be reflected in the July 13 paycheck. And, of course, summer associates will receive the appropriate match as well.

Now we’ve finally got the ball rolling. Maybe people really do still just wait for Cravath to move. On the other hand, of the top 15 firms in gross revenue, Jones Day — in their somewhat cynical way — and Sullivan & Cromwell are the only ones to match so far.

Weil, coincidentally, is number 16 in revenue.

Where the hell is Kirkland? That’s the burning question that will reveal, definitively, the new contour of the legal landscape.

But for now, Weil associates can safely say, “We’ll Get You And Manage To Give You A Raise.”
