Today's A Great Day For Some Biglaw Associate Raises

Check out the latest firm to get on the good ship associate raises.

It seems like such a long time ago that Milbank shocked the world of Biglaw and raised salaries — we were so much younger and innocent then. But in reality, it’s only been 10 days, but the matches (and those that’ve come over the top) have been much slower than in previous salary wars. But with the addition of Simpson Thacher special bonuses and Cravath coming over the top for senior associates, the market has seemingly (finally) coalesced around the Milbank/Simpson/Cravath scale.

Now the deluge of raise announcements can begin in earnest.

The latest firm to get on the good ship associate raises is Willkie Farr. With these raises (and bonuses), the firm is placing itself at the top of the Biglaw pile. And they matched early enough in the process that associates are happy, but not so early they’re market leaders or at risk of being outdone by prevailing market forces.

If you haven’t memorized the new compensation scale (what are you waiting for?), this is the payday Willkie associates can expect come July:

With appreciation for your hard work and commitment to service, effective July 1, we are increasing the salary scale for our U.S. associates.
