I’ve been saying that Stormy Daniels is our modern Hester Prynne. She has done nothing wrong, and yet she is shamed by a prudish society while the man still wields moral authority.
Unfortunately, that analogy leaves Donald Trump as Arthur Dimmesdale, and while Trump shares Dimmesdale’s essential hypocrisy and weakness, I doubt he is wracked by anything so human as guilt. Trump is more Dumbsdale than Dimmesdale.

But the story doesn’t work with Prynne’s erstwhile husband, Roger Chillingworth, who is so wounded by adultery that he becomes unhinged. Now, we can cast that part too. From NBC News:
Glendon Crain filed the petition for divorce on July 18 in state district court in Kaufman County, located just southeast of Dallas. In his 13-page divorce petition filed July 18, Crain alleged adultery as grounds for the divorce and seeks sole custody of the couple’s 7-year-old daughter and child support from Clifford, as well as a financial award and disproportionate share of the couple’s community property…
Crain and Daniels married in 2015 and were living together until about two weeks ago, according to the petition.
I mean, I get it from what I imagine is the husband’s perspective. It’s one thing if your wife has a career taking off her clothes and having sex on camera. You can respect that. It’s a completely different thing if your wife has sex with Donald Trump. Whatever life he thought he was signing up for when he married a porn star in 2015, I’m sure it has been upset here in 2018. I can also appreciate not wanting to have your kid caught up in the Trump/Cohen/Litigation vortex.
But I can’t help feeling that what’s happening to Stormy Daniels, what we as a society are doing to Stormy Daniels, is deeply wrong. She had an affair. Trump called her a liar about it. SHE’S NOT LYING. Nobody credible even thinks she’s lying. But because the President of the United States is incapable of telling the truth, her whole life has just been upended. In response to her whole life being upended, some red-ass man will email me saying, “DON’T FEEL SORRY FOR HER, she’s making money off of all this,” during one of his brief fapping respites. The stories about Donald Trump’s affairs seem to affect everybody (Daniels, Melania, even bag man Michael Cohen) EXCEPT FOR Donald Trump. It’s maddening.
