What’s Behind The FIFA Bribery Case? Greed.

The former soccer official got nine years in prison.

This was a person who committed these crimes not because of need but because of greed.

—E.D.N.Y District Judge Pamela Chen in sentencing ex-FIFA vice president and executive committee member Juan Angel Napout to nine years in prison for agreeing to ~$25 million in bribes. The government had sought a 20 year sentence, as Assistant U.S. Attorney M. Kristin Mace said “The corrupt hold tightly onto their power, they are not easily persuaded to give up on their conduct… A lengthy sentence here would likely persuade them of that.”
