Former Biglaw Partner Indicted On Charges Related To Cryptocurrency Ponzi Scheme

His wife was also arrested for child endangerment.

Mark Scott

Mark S. Scott, a former partner at the Biglaw firm of Locke Lord and founder/CEO of MSS International Consultants Ltd., a private equity fund headquartered in the British Virgin Islands, was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to commit money laundering. According to the indictment, Scott was part of a conspiracy to conceal the source of $400 million in process from an alleged pyramid scheme involving a purported cryptocurrency, OneCoin. Prosecutors allege he transferred money in and out of the country in order to hide the origins of the money.

Before Magistrate Judge Kevin N. Fox, Scott’s bail of $1 million bond was secured by $200,000 cash. As reported by the Cape Cod Times, additional conditions were placed on his bail:

As conditions of his bail, Scott also was placed on home detention; ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device; surrender his travel documents; limit his travel to within the Southern District of New York, the jurisdiction of the federal court hearing the case; submit to drug testing; remain under court supervision; and not possess firearms, according to court documents. Scott was ordered detained until all the conditions are met, the documents say.

Scott was arrested September 5th on his way to his home in Cape Cod, and a warrant was executed upon that property. In the course of serving that warrant, Scott’s wife, Lidia Kolesnikova, was arrested for reckless endangerment of a child. According to reports, while the police were at their home an officer saw an unsecured weapon on a table in the vicinity of an infant, but additional details about that incident are unclear:

Because the report was heavily redacted, the type of weapon was unclear, but unredacted sections refer to “the magazine” and “no round chambered.”

The documents also say Kolesnikova “does not have a license to carry.”

Kolesnikova has pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was released on her own recognizance provided she she surrender her firearms and not have firearms in any home where children are present.
