Gender Discrimination Lawsuit Against Jones Day Dropped -- Well, One Of Them At Least

This isn't the end of Jones Day's gender discrimination woes.

Back in June of 2018, former Jones Day partner Wendy Moore filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the firm. The complaint alleged “[f]emale attorneys are treated as second-class citizens. They are not, nor can they be, full members in the fraternity.” There were further allegations that the firm’s infamous black box compensation model “all but ensures that female attorneys are paid less than their male counterparts.”

But that juicy lawsuit is now over. As reported by Law.com, Moore gets back her capital contribution to the firm and in exchange, she has dropped the case:

A spokesman for Jones Day said Monday that Moore “has now dismissed all of her claims against Jones Day in exchange for return of the capital that she previously contributed to the Firm.”

Moore is now a partner at Perkins Coie.

Despite the resolution of this matter, Jones Day still faces another lawsuit making similar allegations of a fraternity culture and unequal pay. This second lawsuit was filed by former associates, rather than a partner, for a total of seven plaintiffs — three named and four as Jane Doe plaintiffs, at least for now — and is a purported class action. And you can bet we’ll be following all of the twists and turns of that case as they develop.
