I was recently asked to review law firm marketing expert Andy Stickel’s latest training, How to Get More Law Firm Clients Without Losing Time or Money…Or Getting Screwed by a Marketing Company .”   I have to admit, based on the title alone, I was extremely skeptical.

You’re probably thinking, “If marketing companies notoriously screw clients over, and Andy Stickel owns a marketing company, why waste your time?” I mean, a marketing company not screwing lawyers over is like a Starbucks employee getting your name right — it’s very rare.

Out of the gate, Stickel shows three or four real examples of real lawyers that have used the method he’s about to reveal and have gotten some pretty impressive results.

Stickel is always honest, and he continues to pull no punches here. He calls most lawyers (and marketers) out for doing “the “old” method, which is where they write a blog post, promote the blog post on Facebook, “boost” the post … and just hope somebody contacts you.

Andy first walks you through how to get clients from a single social media post, which is nice because I don’t have time to create post after post after post.

Andy explains step-by-step how to land your ideal clients. You don’t keep blindly buying ads, you don’t blindly email everyone you know … you merely reverse engineer your ideal client. Just figure out what your ideal clients want, and deliver it through your marketing message. It’s incredibly simple. It’s also genius.

One of my favorite parts is something he calls a “How To/Without Statement.” You just need to find out what your target clients want and what they fear. The formula is “How to <what they want> without <what they fear>.” It’s literally the title of his video — he got me. In my case, it’s “How To Tell My Wife She’s Spending Too Much Without her Yelling At Me and Becoming Abstinent.”

Why Does This Work When Your Marketing Has Failed In the Past?

In the second part of the video, Stickel explains why this new way to approach marketing a law firm is so much more effective than the “old” method that most law firms are using. The key is to provide value to your clients, which is one of the most crucial keys to marketing. Andy teaches that if you effectively provide value, people will view you as the authority in your field.

I think most people know this, but many lawyers make the mistake of not understanding what their ideal clients actually find valuable. Also, figuring out how to turn the pipe dream of creating value into something that you actually do is another story. Stickel solves both of those problems in this training.

It seems that lawyers from all practice areas are represented in the success stories. I saw personal injury, criminal defense, family law, estate planning, bankruptcy an even a freelance attorney whose ideal client is other attorneys.

When I first read this title, it sounded about as credible as a Nigerian Prince email. But after watching this video, I’m looking at marketing in a completely new way, and I’m excited to do it!

I’ve already created my marketing plan and just started using this strategy. I’ll definitely be doing follow-up posts to update my progress.
