Email from STB from June 1, 2020:
All STB Personnel,
The horrific deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery and other recent but now familiar episodes of racism, oppression and violence have left us feeling deeply angered and upset. They may also deepen a sense of despair and helplessness, exacerbated by our isolation and inability to gather together in our workplaces, especially to provide comfort and solidarity to our Black and Brown colleagues and friends. We appreciate that those colleagues and friends are especially pained, distracted and exhausted by these events, and we, as a Firm, will provide those colleagues and friends with the necessary space, time and compassion.
USCIS shift to electronic payments: What immigration firms need to know
As of October 2025, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services requires electronic payments for filing fees. Learn key updates, exemptions, and how firms can prepare.
I promise you that racism and hate will never be tolerated at our Firm. I assure you that we will focus yet more on diversity and inclusion at our Firm. Over the coming weeks, our colleagues on the Diversity Committee and members of the D&I team will explore ideas, resources and programs that will help us build a platform to facilitate a conversation on empathy and allyship. The Firm is also collaborating with the Association of Law Firm Diversity Professionals in a collective response from law firms across the U.S. We will continue to update you on these efforts. Of course, we will also continue to support pro bono projects that combat racism and racial injustices. Please reach out to me, the diversity co-chairs (Karen Kelley, Sandy Qusba and Bill Russell) or the D&I team if you have ideas.
These past few month have been difficult and challenging for all of us. We recognize that we have an obligation to our colleagues of color, and that their struggles are our struggles. They are not and shall not stand alone. I thank you all again for your continued dedication and professionalism as you work in the midst of a global health crisis and a resurgent national struggle for equality. I appreciate how difficult it must feel to carry on business as usual, especially when nothing is usual at the moment. I implore everyone to reach out to and support our communities of color. And I ask everyone to strive to be yet more kind, empathetic and compassionate in every realm of our lives, including in our work and in our communities.
Please take care of yourselves and continue to support one another. These recent outrages strike at a difficult time, but we will continue to get through this together, and will move forward as a united community and family.
Bill
