Staff Realignment

Colleagues:

Your perseverance and resilience during these disruptive times have been profoundly appreciated. This challenging period has brought out the best in every member of the Baker Botts team.

Since this disruption began in March, the law firm business model has evolved rapidly, and the indefinite remote working environment created by the pandemic has fundamentally changed the way we – and other law firms – deliver services to clients.

Today’s environment is requiring that essentially all businesses re-examine every aspect of their operations and traditional assumptions, as we now see our daily work habits changing on a long-term basis. The way our lawyers and our support staff work together has experienced a fundamental shift.

As a prudent business, we must be responsive to this shift and ensure that we align our supporting resources with our clients’ and the Firm’s business needs in this changed environment.

As part of this realignment, I am writing to let you know that earlier today approximately 50 staff members across the Firm, in Office Services and Secretarial Services, were informed that their positions will be eliminated effective October 15.

These decisions were extremely difficult and were made with a great deal of deliberation, consistent with the long-term needs of the Firm. We will be parting ways with some wonderful people whom we thank for all they have done for the Firm – some over many years.

To those who are leaving the Firm, you have our deep gratitude and best wishes. Nobody could have envisaged this pandemic, and the changes that are associated with it. While it may be of little comfort, this is not a reflection of your dedication, talents and professionalism. We are grateful for your enduring contributions to the Firm.

Please continue to stay connected with one another and stay in close touch. Thank you for all that you do for Baker Botts.

Nick
