As the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its third week, the devastation and humanitarian crisis seems overwhelming. But there are resources, both financial and legal, in Biglaw. The question is: how are they using it?
Yesterday, the leadership at Debevoise announced they’d be matching donations, up to $1,500 per person, for any employee who gives to certain humanitarian aid organizations:
In Michael Blair’s email yesterday about responding to the situation in Ukraine, he mentioned that the Firm will provide a matching program for donations to certain humanitarian aid organizations that are providing assistance to Ukrainian civilians. The three organizations for whom donations will be matched are UNICEF, the International Council of the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors without Borders. Details, including Web links to their respective sites, are listed below. The Firm will match up to $1,500 in total donations to these organizations per individual Firm employee.

The Firm will match up to $1,500 in total donations to these organizations per individual Firm employee. While there are many organizations providing humanitarian relief to Ukraine, we have chosen these three for the quality of their work and resources they can provide, and for the ability of members of the Debevoise community across the various locations in which we operate, to contribute. In most if not all jurisdictions, donations should also be tax deductible, though you should please confirm that for your location independently.
To make a donation that qualifies for the Firm’s matching program, you should make your donations directly on the website of the relevant organization(s) listed below. Once you have donated, you should go to a link on DebWeb that we will be establishing shortly, to indicate which organizations you have contributed to and the amount of the donation. As a reminder, for every $1 you donate to an eligible organization, the firm will donate $1 to the same organization, up to a total of $1,500 in donations per Firm employee. We will send out a separate email with the link in the next 2-3 days.
Thank you in advance to those who would like to contribute in this way. Arthur
