Mitchell Wasek via Austin Police Department
Mitchell Wasek, a law student at SMU Dedman School of Law and son of Buc-ee’s co-founder Don Wasek, was arrested for allegedly secretly filming house guests in the bathrooms of three different properties. According to police, the bathroom recordings show unsuspecting guests “using the toilet, showering, changing clothes and/or having sex.”
In May, guests at the Wasek family lake house on Lake Travis, Texas noticed a charging port and hidden camera in their bathroom and took the camera to police. According to reports, those files revealed recordings of 13 people in bathrooms at the lake house as well as two other properties owned by the Wasek family — one an Austin apartment and the other a home in Telluride, Colorado. There are also Amazon records linking Mitchell Wasek to the purchase of “spy cameras.”
Keeping Law School Accessible When Federal Loans Fall Short
As federal borrowing caps tighten financing options for law students, one organization is stepping in to negotiate the terms they can't secure alone.
SMU released the following statement on the arrest:
“In response to this incident, campus police are taking additional security measures at law school facilities. Currently, there is no evidence of criminal conduct related to this case on our campus.”
Wasek is facing 28 counts of invasive visual recording. He’s posted bail of $280,000 — $10,000 per count, and faces up to 2 years in jail for each count.
