Wachtell's Co-Chairs Step Down After 17 Years, Ushering In New Leaders
They led the firm through good times and bad, and still came out ahead of the game.
After a 17-year run as the heads of the firm, Edward Herlihy and Daniel Neff will step down from their roles as Wachtell Lipton’s co-chairs. According to the American Lawyer, Herlihy and Neff will remain on the firm’s executive committee.
During their time serving as the top Biglaw firm’s leaders, Herlihy and Neff responsibly guided the approximately 280-lawyer firm through a great deal of financial growth — not to mention a pandemic. As noted by Law.com, when the pair first assumed their leadership roles in 2006, the firm’s revenue was $443 million. In 2021, the firm’s revenue was just over $1 billion, with 2022 revenue tracking close behind.
Herlihy and Neff will be passing the reins to Andrew Nussbaum, a corporate partner, and William Savitt, co-chair of the firm’s litigation department. Savitt will retain his litigation co-chair title with his ascension to co-chair of the firm. The pair offered a brief joint statement to Bloomberg Law, saying that the firm “is in a position of great strength as we take on the responsibility of leadership,” and that they’re “honored to have been asked to serve the partnership and will do our best to sustain its success.”
