Lina Hidalgo is the county judge of Harris County, Texas, and an up-and-coming figure in Democratic politics. She’s also engaged to civil rights attorney David James. As with many a millennial, Hidalgo’s engagement creates many an instagrammable moment, like her bridal shower.
Hidalgo’s IG post showed off her pink and white colors and a darling tea party theme. But it’s the social media post of a politician — not everyone’s gonna keep the comments light and positive. Yet one comment — or more accurately commenter — is getting a lot of attention.
Fellow Democrat, Houston Mayor John Whitmire tried for… something in the comments of the post, noting David “sure looks like a nerd.” Now, maybe he didn’t mean “nerd” as a dig — plenty of people are nerdy and proud of it! But Whitmire did delete the comment pretty quickly.

Houston politics update:

That blue checkmark means Whitmire’s comments are always going to get attention. So maybe a little more reflection before posting is warranted.
