The Most Legendary Entertainment Lawyers (2024)

These lawyers are almost as famous as their Hollywood clients. Congratulations!

HollywoodRepresenting celebrity clients is likely to catapult your name into the news and turn your practice into a household topic of conversation. Those within the entertainment law bar have worked with some of the most celebrated — and sometimes reviled — clients in the country, and in most cases, the world. But who among these lawyers is the best of the best, the lawyers who are truly legends in their field?

The Hollywood Reporter has another entertainment law ranking out, and for the sixth year in a row, the magazine is honoring “entertainment attorneys whose careers have had enduring impact on both the entertainment industry and the law.” Referred to as “legendary lawyers,” those honored keep their title for life.

Here’s a short summary on each of 2024’s new inductees.

  • David Fox, Myman Greenspan
From a lifeguard to a lawyer, Fox has represented some of the most revered filmmakers, producers, and directors in the business. “Law school was just a way to delay a decision about my life,” he told THR.
  • Michael Kump, Kinsella Holley
With clients ranging from TV royalty (the Kardashians) to ex-British royalty (Megan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex), Kump has his hands full with defamation suits that don’t seem to stop.
  • Peter Nelson, Nelson Davis
He’s represented famous actors and directors throughout his career, and became famous himself for standing up to a studio exec who threatened to punch him. “I can’t be intimidated,” he told THR.
  • Ron Nessim, Bird Marella
From white-collar crime to entertainment contract disputes, Nessim has represented some of the entertainment industry’s most beloved showrunners. “These are hard fought cases and they evolved to be even more hard fought,” he told THR.
  • Kelli Sager, Davis Wright Tremaine
A true First Amendment fighter, Sager has been on the media’s side since she started her career, helping to make the court system more and more accessible for the press (and members of the public, too).

Congratulations to 2024’s legendary entertainment lawyers. It’s well-deserved recognition for all of your work in an industry featuring clients who may be some of the hardest to deal with in the world.
