That does not mean this future will arrive exactly as it is. There are a thousand other paths. A major scandal could slow adoption. A court could draw harder lines. A legislature could overcorrect. A public backlash could change the market. A breakthrough could accelerate everything. A failure could reset trust. The story may turn left where this piece turns right.
But the broad direction no longer seems crazy. AI will not sit outside the legal profession and wait for permission. It will move through clients, courts, claims, products, medicine, transportation, evidence, education, staffing, finance, and regulation. It will create new work as it destroys old work. It will reward lawyers who adapt and expose lawyers who hide.
The danger lies in staring only at the next six months. The opportunity lies in stepping back and seeing the next 25 years. The future rarely announces itself as the future. It usually arrives as a tool, a policy, a client request, a case type, a hearing, a deadline, or a problem no one trained us to solve.
Then one day, we look around and realize the practice did not change overnight.
It changed every year.
