Earlier this week, we made available for free download a white paper with findings from and analysis of the Law Firm Gender Diversity Index. The Index, created by NavForward in partnership with ATL — and sponsored by Bloomberg Law — is the first study to ever collect and analyze raw data on gender diversity in the legal market. The Index categorizes every lawyer in the largest 1,200 firms in the country and is the most comprehensive and accurate database of its kind available anywhere.
Domestically, among the Am Law 200 firms, about one in three attorneys is female, yet only about one in five partners is a woman. These proportions are roughly consistent across all major U.S. markets, with San Francisco leading the way and Houston somewhat lagging:

The white paper examines a range of subjects, including the correlation (or lack thereof) between recruitment of female attorneys and their promotion, as well as identifies the specific firms that provide the best partnership prospects for women. Download the paper here.
