It borders on banal to say it, but my least favorite aspect of the Trump Era has been how it has unleashed white people to be racist. Not all white people are racist, but the ones who are feel no bounds, no fear, and no shame. Racism is the official policy of the United States government now, and everybody from the Attorney General to the random New York lawyer knows it and feels free to revel in it.
Last week, lawyer Aaron Schlossberg made a damn fool of himself, screaming at people for speaking Spanish. Luckily for, like, society, Schlossberg has no real power and his racist outburst has hurt him more than anybody else.

But the problem isn’t Schlossberg, it’s the people who think like him and yet have been given some semblance of authority in this world. Slate has a video of a ICE officer employing the same racist logic as Schlossberg, and you can see how awful it is when these racist MAGA assholes are given a badge:
I don’t know about you, but the point when I started cursing was when the woman asks if she’s being racially profiled and the actual racist says “It has nothing to do with that… It’s the fact that it has to do with you guys speaking Spanish in the store, in a state where it’s predominantly English-speaking.”

Somebody has to stop ICE. I don’t know how. I don’t know how to stop them over the objection of a majority of white people who still support Donald Trump and think this kind of unwashed racism is cool. I don’t know how to convert my boiling rage into something less impotent.
But lord knows if the revolution ever comes, if the liberation ever comes, I hope all these ICE people, and their racist supporters, are held accountable.
