There’s a lot to be said about Trump lawyer Alina Habba’s truly embarrassing court appearance this week. Judge Lewis Kaplan seemed to lose patience with Habba’s complete ignorance of trial procedure — seriously, a Biglaw first-year could do better if for no other reason that they *know* what they don’t know.
Lawyers have been having a grand old time poking fun at the piss-poor performance. But Habba’s court appearance was SO BAD it has crossed into the mainstream. That’s right, procedure, that driest of legal topics, is now late night talk show fodder.

Last night on Late Night, Seth Meyers took his turn making fun of Habba. He called Judge Kaplan’s treatment of the lawyer “brutal.” Meyers said Habba is “so bad at this the judge is basically telling the jury, ‘Just pretend she’s not here.’” He continued, “The judge is talking about her the way you talk to your kids about the weird guy on the subway.”
LOL, classic.
So, on behalf of Above the Law — the OGs of ridiculing lawyers, generally, and Habba, specifically — welcome to the party, Seth! The jokes may be niche but they’re pretty solid.
