Biglaw Blind Item: How Dewey Feel When Other Firms Make Jokes?

Now other firms are making jokes at Dewey's expense. Is Dewey's possible demise a laughing matter?

You know it’s tough times for your business when your firm is the butt of jokes throughout the legal profession. Who knows how many snide little remarks have been made about Dewey & LeBoeuf at Biglaw firms around the country? I bet there have been robust laughs at Dewey’s expense. If Austin Powers were here, he’d say, “Dewey’s like the village bicycle — everybody’s had a ride.”

We capture one of these little jokes over email. Let’s just hope nobody is making fun of your firm like this…

We’ve redacted the name of the firm where these emails went around, because we don’t want to single out any one firm for having a go at the embattled Dewey & LeBoeuf. The set-up is pretty simple. An associate at a firm decided to leave for another firm, and sent around a nice, short departure memo:

As those of you who I have had the pleasuring of working with over the past few years already know, today is my final day at the firm. I have accepted an offer to work [at another firm].

Thanks to everyone who makes [Redacted] a fun, unique place to work. Many thanks to those who gave me the opportunity to work here and who spent the time teaching me how to be a better lawyer. I have learned so much. What makes this place special is the people and the relationships. I’m going to miss many of you dearly.

Below is my personal email address. I know it sounds cliché, but please drop me a line so we can stay in touch. It would mean a lot to me.

That’s pretty funny. Many of you would laugh if you got that. (Of course, there’s a difference between laughing at inept management versus laughing at the plight of displaced Dewey employees; the latter subject is no laughing matter.)

We hear that the partner and the associate who participated in this email exchange are actually on very good terms. That’s too bad — it would have been even funnier if the partner secretly hated the associate and was getting the last word in before the kid left the firm.

Also, we understand that the associate in question is not going to Dewey & LeBoeuf.
