Answers to Your Three Most Frequently Asked Election Day Questions

Election Day is quickly approaching. On Tuesday, November 6th, voters across the nation will flock to the polls to cast their ballot in tightly contested local, state, and congressional races. Regardless of political affiliation, civic engagement and exercising the right to vote is as important today as it’s ever been. That’s why we sat down to answer your most pressing voting questions. Do you know where your polling place is? Want to volunteer but not sure how? Don’t worry – we have answers!

1. Where do I vote?

Look up your polling place here. And go here to contact your individual state’s election office.

2. What if I’m not on the voter rolls?

First, double check that you’re at the right polling station for your address. If you’re just not listed, ask for a provisional ballot. Some states might refer to them as “affidavit ballots” or “challenge ballots.” The Help America Vote Act requires poll workers to offer voters a provisional ballot, if there is any question about a voter’s eligibility. This ensures that no voter will be turned away from the polls.

3. How can I volunteer on Election Day?

There are two easy ways to volunteer on Election Day:  become a poll worker or sign up to be an Election Protection Volunteer. Election Protection is the largest non-partisan voter coalition program dedicated to ensuring eligible voters gain access to the polls.
