Nationwide Pay Raise Watch: The South

We continue our series of posts examining the nation’s less-than-gigantic legal markets. Some of the markets we cover are scorned by the New York and L.A. types. But since the posts continue to generate lots of comments and discussion — over 160 comments on yesterday’s post on the Upper Midwest — we will push ahead.
A reader down south emailed us:

I realize that you are trying to hit the second-tier markets on ATL. Would it be possible to see what Nashville, Jackson, Birmingham, and Lexington are doing?

Sure. In fact, consider this post an omnibus post for all southern legal markets (excluding Atlanta and Charlotte, which we’ve already done).
Also excluded: Texas, which will get a post of its own sometime next week.
Our tipster provided us with some data points to get the ball rolling. Please start up the discussion, after the jump.

Again, from our source:

Nashville: diverse economy, with healthcare and entertainment. Firms include Baker Donelson, Boult Cummings, Bass Berry & Sims, H3GM. Market is generlaly $100K, but Bass Berry has moved to $110K. Everyone is waiting to see if the rest of market will match in Nashville.

Birmingham: home to several very large banks, e.g. Amsouth/ Regions. Firms include Bradley Arant Rose & White, Sirote & Permutt, Burr & Forman. Salaries generally start around $85K (with $3K bonus).

Lexington: Firms include Wyatt Tarrant & Combs, Greenebaum Doll & McDonald, Stites & Harbison, Frost Brown Todd. Salaries starting around $88K.

Jackson: Firms include Adams & Reese, McGlinchey Stafford, Phelps Dunbar.

We’re feeling pretty lazy these days. If you have a secondary legal market that you’d like profiled, it always helps to collect and send us some data points, as this helpful reader did. Thanks.
