Loyola Law - L.A. Tries to Placate Disgruntled Recent Graduates

On Friday, we told you about the angry recent law school graduate who emailed a scathing letter to the alumni officers at his alma mater, Loyola Law School – Los Angeles. The graduate, whom we nicknamed “Loyola 6L,” called out the school’s career services office and the dean, Victor Gold.

Loyola 6L sent out his letter on Tuesday of last week. Last Thursday, alumni services decided it was time to have an alumni mixer.

Coincidence?

Loyola 6L forwarded along the alumni message after we posted his rant on Friday. He said: “No Loyola graduate of 2009 has heard from Dean Gold since, except for money, and certainly NEVER about him being ‘committed to do all he can to assist Loyola graduates with their careers.'”

While this alumni letter isn’t a direct response to Loyola 6L’s letter, it certainly seems to have been inspired by the message:

Dean Victor Gold is committed to do all he can to assist Loyola graduates with their careers. His goal is to help recent graduates take the next step forward, whether that might be moving to a new firm, starting your own practice or creating and increasing employment opportunities in this challenging job market.

On Thursday, November 3, 2011 the Law School will host a private mixer from 6 to 7:00 p.m. at The London West Hollywood for recent graduates (five years or less) and alums who have been practicing between 10 and 20 years. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates to gain first-hand insight about career paths from Loyola alums who are successful practitioners.

The private mixer is in conjunction with the Law School’s annual Alumni Grand Reunion from 7 to 9:00 p.m. that evening. The ticket price will give you entry to both events. Please RSVP today and take advantage of Loyola’s alumni network.

The opening paragraph really sounds like it was added to make alumni feel better about Dean Gold. Remember, in his letter, Loyola 6L wrote:

[I]t would be nice to get a letter from Dean Gold saying he knows a lot of us are struggling and that he actually cares for us to be practicing, more than us feeling like he’s happy we paid LLS $55K a year to be there and graduate with a shitty reputation and crippling debt.

I’m not sure this counts. But maybe Dean Gold will show up to the Grand Reunion, give Loyola 6L a hug, and say, “I feel your pain.” It might not count as “Free Empathy,” since it cost Loyola 6L over six figures, but it’s something.

Me, I think they should invite 0Ls to the Grand Reunion so they can see what’s in store for them.
