USC Law's Snitch Patrol: Episode Two

Last week, we covered the apparent epidemic of snitching happening at USC Gould School of Law. A person who sympathized with the snitch wrote a sarcastic email making fun of those who were outraged by the tattletale. And he was just warming up. Read on for updates, amusement, and enlightenment....

STUDENT RESPONSE #1:

Honestly, if someone in this class complained to the administration about Levinson, that person should be ashamed.

Levinson IS offensive and a lot of the jokes he cracks are distasteful. However, consider the following:

1) He fully disclosed that he was offensive on the very first day of class, after he had cracked some distasteful jokes. We all had the opportunity to drop the class at that time.

2) When a NORMAL person has a problem with what a teacher says, that person confronts the teacher first face to face. Levinson is a guy who just made our assignments optional just because ONE student e-mailed him. Does anyone in this class really think that he wouldn’t curb some of his offensive behaviour?

3) What the FUCK do Levinson’s offensive comments have to do with the method of teaching the course?? We have to read from a textbook now?? And get cold-called?? Congratulations for ruining this class between now and the end of the year.

4) Based on the fact that the actual substance of the course is now changing, I can only assume that somebody complained about Levinson’s unconventional method of teaching AS WELL AS his offensive comments. If this is true, I have nothing to say to the person who made that complaint, other than to point out that complaining about the substance of a course in which there is no final exam, no mandatory assignments and no cold calling is absolutely preposterous and would be offensive to me even if I were not in this class.

5) I would love to know how a person who does not have the courage, decency and common sense to talk to his/her teacher face to face before going nuts and complaining to the administration about god knows what intends to represent the interests of any client ever. I would NEVER hire a person like this to represent me in any particular.
