A Guide for Surviving On-Campus Interviewing With Style

On-campus interviewing season is here, so here are some great style tips courtesy of CakeStyle, a company co-founded by a Harvard Law grad...

CAKESTYLE — FROM INTERVIEW TO BAR REVIEW

We started with a great, tailored skirt suit from Ted Baker. We love this brand at CakeStyle — he creates outfits that are professional yet lovely and stylish. There is a slight windowpane pattern in this grey suit, which softens it. We paired it with an Equipment blouse, which is a silk button down shirt. This is a departure from the typical starched cotton shirt you might wear under a suit, and it is also very feminine. I would suggest just unbuttoning the top button for an interview to keep the neckline high. Layering the lacy camisole underneath will keep the shirt from being see-through.

Accessories should be kept to a minimum for an interview; basics really are best. We thought a Dana Rebecca Designs necklace would be perfect. It sits at the hollow of your neck, and adds a subtle hint of shine without being too much. We also included this slim gold bracelet by Circle Designs. Finally, we added shoes and a bag large enough for your résumé and a small laptop. The Cole Haan shoes are nude which will look great with the dark purple windowpane. The heel height is also just enough to make your legs look great, without being absurdly tall. The bag by Stella McCartney offers a chain strap that extends around the seam of the bag, taking a basic nude piece and making it amazing.

It’s time to let down your hair and make this outfit fun. We ditched the jacket, and suggest unbuttoning a few of the buttons on the Equipment shirt to show off that gorgeous camisole. There’s plenty of room in that Stella McCartney bag for a statement necklace, and we thought this turquoise one would be perfect. Leave the Dana Rebecca necklace on with it, since layering necklaces is very chic. If you really want to go trendy, you can untuck the Equipment blouse and tie it at the waist. This is a perfect cocktail look, and you’ve earned it!
